While other fantasy IPs are going backward in time to mine for stories like House of the Dragon and Rings of Power, Vikings is moving forward. The six-season History series on the Nordic explorers got a sequel on Netflix with Valhalla, set 100 years after the original series.

Willing to ditch the dragons? There's also no shortage of royal family squabbles playing out on TV. The Crown, entering its fifth season on Netflix, dramatizes the history of the British monarchy.

Black Sails
