Moss, who stars as Offred/June, told The Hollywood Reporter that she has "100 percent approval over all the footage," and can "literally say, 'You cannot use that scene'".

Discussing sex scenes and nudity in their film and TV roles, Moss told a round-table including Thandie Newton, Angela Bassett and Maggie Gyllenhaal that the convention started while she was working on The Top of the Lake with Jane Campion.

"As far as the nudity and the sex, I was lucky in the sense that five years ago I worked with Jane Campion. It was my first nude scene and she gave me 100 percent approval without me asking."

Since then, Moss has made it a staple precondition of her involvement in a project, and argued that "everyone should have it".

"Yeah, I have it on everything now, and they can't send out a cut without me approving it," she said. "It's just normal now."

Moss went on to praise the atmosphere around creative team working on The Handmaid's Tale.

"I work in a really incredibly collaborative atmosphere on my show that I have never experienced. I have been in television for a while, and it's not like this usually, so I am very, very lucky. There's no hierarchy, there's no ego."
