Even some of the biggest fans of Family Guy might not know that one of the show's greatest regular guest stars was Princess Leia herself. For 25 episodes—beginning in 2005—Carrie Fisher provided the voice of Angela, Peter Griffin's boss at the Pawtucket Pat Brewery.
Though the show dedicated its January 2017 premiere to Fisher shortly after her death, Family Guy directly addressed the late Hollywood icon this weekend. The episode opened with Peter speaking at Angela's funeral. As Peter said:
“Who could turn the world on with her smile? Angela. Who could take a nothing day and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile? Angela. So no one told you life was gonna be this way. [Claps four times.] Angela. Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name. Angela. I’m sorry. Death is hard for me. But at least Angela died doing what she loved—swimming less than 20 minutes after she had eaten. That’s a real thing, kids. Listen to your mothers. That was Angela: fearless, spontaneous, honest—about herself just as much as she was about the world around her. She had grace, courage, and an unmatched zest for life. She may be gone, but her voice will live on in DVD and Hulu Plus and tiny droid-projected messages. I may have lost a boss, but heaven has gained a princess.”It's a surprisingly heartfelt turn for the irreverent show. The tribute references Fisher's beloved Star Wars character, along with a number of classic TV sitcom theme songs. Family Guy was one of Fisher's final projects, with episodes featuring her voice airing well into 2017. The actress's final film credit will be in the upcoming Star Wars movie, which will feature unused footage of Fisher from previous films to complete the story of Princess Leia.
