Welcome to The Esquire Endorsement. Heavily researched. Thoroughly vetted. These picks are the best way to spend your hard-earned cash.

If there’s ever a time when you should be at your most comfortable, it should be while you sleep. Now, I know a thing or two about comfort and coziness—or I thought I did. Looking back, I used to rough it. Like a medieval peasant, I used to go to bed every night in—and don’t judge me—a big tee and flannel pants. The horror! If you’re someone who sleeps in mismatched, worn-in pajamas yourself, don’t be offended. It wasn’t until I tried Petite Plume’s pajamas that I even realized I was missing out.

It’s hard (and sad) to think of the tens of thousands of sleeps I’ve had in pajamas that weren’t Petite Plume. This might seem like a strong opinion to have over PJs, of all things, but think about it: You go to sleep every night for (hopefully) eight hours a night, and eight hours is a third of the day. The average person spends 33 percent of their life asleep. A third of your whole life, spent in pajamas! If you were doing anything else for a third of your entire life, you’d want to make sure you were set up to be doing it as best as you could. When I’m 60, and I’ve spent a collective 20 years of my life asleep, I’ll be so damn glad I found the best pajamas out there before it was too late.

They Exude Luxury

You know in How I Met Your Mother, how it’s an ongoing bit that Barney Stinson wears a suit to bed instead of pajamas, making him better and more put-together than the average man? Petite Plume’s Windsor Tartan Pajamas are the suit of sleepwear. They’re the PJs you aren’t worried about having to rush out of the house in case of an emergency in the middle of the night. They’re the ones you put on a few hours before you even get into bed—your late-night UberEats delivery guy sees ‘em, your neighbor sees ‘em when you take out the trash, your bodega man sees ‘em when you decide 11 PM is prime time for a chopped cheese.

Really, though—these are the quintessential tartan pajamas. Petite Plume offers a wide range of styles, from solid colors to stripes, but the tartan set is a timeless, luxe look that really gets me in the holiday spirit (I already know that this is what I’ll be unwrapping my presents in come Christmas morning).

Down to the tiniest detail, these pajamas are all about bringing elegance and luxury to your sleep; they have navy piping, pearl buttons, and a chic, tailored look that your other pajamas (sorry, oversized tee!) couldn’t dream of replicating.

They're Warm and Soft

I’m the kind of person who has always been really picky about pajamas, because I can’t sleep if I’m even the slightest bit too warm or too cold. I’ve tried to wear the long sleeve and pants formula before, but always found it to be just a little too hot under my covers. So, naturally, I was wary about trying out this flannel Petite Plume set. But I’m truly, honestly not exaggerating when I say that the first time I wore them to sleep was the best sleep I’ve had in my life.

Despite being made from soft, yarn-dyed, 100 percent cotton, these PJs feel lightweight and breathable. They aren’t thin, by any means, but they’re just the right weight to induce sleep and not sweat. The fabric is thicker than a regular tee, and feels like a softer, cozier version of regular flannel PJs. The elastic waistband is a given, but the buttons on the shirt are so small and non-invasive that even the most adamant stomach-sleeper can drift off without feeling them dig into their torso.

Unlike other PJs that get scratchy or pill after being washed, though, Petite Plume’s just get softer and softer. The brand recommends machine washing in cold water and machine drying without heat—I’ve washed mine about four times now with this method, and they really get cozier and comfier every time. The quality really speaks for itself over time.

They Make the Perfect Gift

In my humble opinion, pajamas—especially really nice pajamas—are the ultimate holiday gift. They're useful and functional, and if they're Petite Plume, they're stylish, too. When you love something as much as I love these pajamas, you want everyone you care about to experience how good they are, too—there's a set for you, for your spouse, for your kids, your parents, your siblings.

The Windsor Tartan set is a pretty standard, unisex look, but the brand has a ton of options you can pick from, in different silhouettes, too, like short-sleeve tops and shorts. Something about the holiday season makes us all bundle up in PJs a little more, so these are timely as ever, too.

If you want to go the extra mile and, say, get matching pajamas for yourself and the family (and the dog), you can even add a custom embroidered monogram everyone’s set. You’ll all wear these and snap a holiday card photo or two, but really, every time you wake up in Petite Plume PJs will feel like Christmas morning.
