First it was his hair, and now Robert Pattinson's blowing it in the beard department too. Yesterday, he showed up for the Berlin premier of his new film Life sporting a bizarre, pointy leprechaun beard.
This weird-beard obviously looks bad, but if we dig deeper, there are a few subtle problem areas that take this look from iffy to grooming disaster.
The Shape
It's fine to trim your sideburns and cheeks a bit shorter than the rest of your beard. Overdo it, however, and you'll create a pointy chin that will make a slim face look too long and skinny or a wide face uneven and out of balance. Instead, he should have created a balanced look, with his beard a bit longer on the sides and cheeks and a bit shorter on the point of the chin.
The Moustache

The biggest problem here is Pattinson's moustache. It's lighter than the rest of his beard in both color and texture, and he's only exaggerated this by shaving it much shorter than the rest of his beard. Even worse, he's trimmed the lip line so sharply that it disconnects from his beard, creating a weird gap. Instead, he should have kept his moustache long and heavy to match his beard and only trimmed it directly above his lip, rather than running out over his lip and disconnecting it from the rest of his bead.
The Neck
It's a bit hard to see here, but Pattinson has made the classic mistake of shaving his neckline too high, which shows too much extra skin along the bottom of his jaw. This creates a double-chin effect and should be avoided at all costs. Instead, he should have just shaved his neck to right above his Adam's apple and left some extra space along his jawline as it sweeps back towards is ears, like this.
