Don your favorite top hat, because Wonka is on its way to streamers. The movie-musical—inspired by Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory—tells Willy Wonka’s origin story. In this iteration, Timothée Chalamet stars as Willy, a young candymaker and visionary who’s gotten himself in trouble with… wait for it… a chocolate cartel.
Wonka begins with good ol' Willy deciding to open a candy store. He has a vision for the shop, a killer chocolate recipe, and few magic tricks up his sleeve in his quest to pull it all together. The only thing standing in his way? A group of sugar-loving pimps who have a monopoly over the industry. But they’re no match for the chocolatier—who is hellbent on fulfilling his dreams. In Wonka, Chalamet is joined by Sally Hawkins, who plays his mother, along with a miniature Hugh Grant, who plays a crotchety Oompa Loompa. Calah Lane also stars as Noodle, a cunning child who becomes Willy’s trusted companion. Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, and Keegan-Michael Key round out the ensemble as well.
If you haven’t seen it yet, Wonka is still available to watch in theaters. The film premiered on December 15, and it'll likely stay on the silver screen for at least another few weeks. However, if an at-home movie night is more your speed, fear not: Wonka should land on streamers soon. Amazon Prime Video already has the movie available for preorder, which hopefully means the premiere isn't too far away. Plus, Warner Bros. Pictures produced the film, so it should land Max this spring.. Either way, Wonka will be here before you know it—just in case a chocolate-loving Timmy T is the kind of thing you'd like to own.
